Ubisoft’s Goal: Perfecting Frontiers of Pandora to Build Avatar Game Brand
Following the postponement of Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, Ubisoft has expressed its ambition to establish the Avatar franchise as a significant video game brand, emphasizing the need for the upcoming game to be exemplary.
During a conference call post the financial earnings report, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot remarked, “We see the Avatar brand as having immense potential to become a major player in the video game industry. With more movies and activities around the brand planned in the coming years, we are approaching it with the same dedication as we would for a dedicated video game brand, ensuring that the game is exceptional in every aspect.”
Guillemot later stressed the importance of perfection in making Avatar a noteworthy name in the gaming industry. This comes after Ubisoft’s initial foray with Avatar: The Game in 2009, a prequel to the original movie, which received a mixed response and struggled to establish a gaming brand, possibly hindered by the film series’ hiatus.
In the same financial report, Ubisoft announced that Frontiers of Pandora’s release is now scheduled for the next fiscal year, spanning April 1, 2023, to March 31, 2024. Guillemot attributed the delay to the current challenging working conditions in the industry, particularly the reduced frequency of in-office work, which significantly impacted the game’s development timeline.
